Bad Breath: Organic/Natural Solutions

Hey darlings,
It is another episode on using natural/organic products to treat everyday issues. Today’s topic is very important because it directly or indirectly affects us. lol. Please, share and make the world a more habitable place.

Also known as halitosis, bad breath can be caused by poor hygiene, poor digestion, dehydration, gastric ulcers, clinical disorders, bacteria linked to gum disease, certain foods, odor-inducing microbes that reside in between your teeth and gums.

Apart from being an effect of poor oral hygiene, bad breathe can also occur as a repercussion of certain things that you do. Eg, taking certain drugs has having a dry mouth as one of the side effects, and this is because the drugs exposes you to a wide number of synthetic, chemical compounds.

Other habits that may lead to halitosis are smoking, drinking alcohol, eating certain foods and even snoring. I must mention here that one of the major causes of bad breath is an unhealthy digestive system. If your gut has an imbalance between good and bad bacteria, you can be predisposed to bad breath and more serious health problems.

Bad breath is characterized by dryness in the mouth, a bad taste in the mouth that is usually sour or bitter with a bad odor, tonsils showing the presence of white nodules, and the tongue covered by a film of mucus.

Brushing and flossing are effective ways to promote a healthy bacteria environment in your mouth, thus hence preventing bad breath. Please, note that you should avoid toothpastes containing fluoride. Shocking, right?

Thing is, rather than prevent cavities and other dental problems, fluoride is actually associated with poor oral health and a number of detrimental health risks. It is recommended that you use toothpaste that contains calcium and phosphate salts which can restore minerals to your teeth.

Here are some things you can use to help the situation, after knowing the underlying cause:

-Drink plenty of water and swish cool water around in your mouth. This is especially helpful to freshen morning breath.

-Baking Soda- Also known as bi-carbonate of soda can be used in the following ways;
i. Wet your toothbrush and dip it into the baking soda.
ii. Add about a table spoon of baking soda in a small glass of water. Swish it around in your mouth and spit it out.
These should be done at night.

-Lemon- A spoonful of lemon with a pinch of salt can remove garlic and onion breathe after a meal. You can also add a tablespoon of lemon in a cup of water and rinse your mouth with it.

-Apples, Carrots and Pears- They are rich in fiber and they produce saliva when chewed. They also aid in scrubbing the teeth simply by eating them.

Apple Cider Vinegar– Stir one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar into a glass of water and drink it before eating your meals. The vinegar will help in digestion as well as cure bad breath. You can also gargle with apple cider vinegar mixed in a cup of water.

-Tea tree oil- Brush your teeth with a toothpaste containing tea tree oil. OR put a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush along with your regular toothpaste. You can also mix a few drops of tea tree oil, peppermint oil and lemon oil in a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash.

Along with these remedial procedures, proper oral hygiene must be practiced. This includes brushing (preferable twice daily), timely cleaning, flushing and flossing of your oral area, replacing your toothbrush every three months

Note:*There is nothing like being able to wake up in the morning without the fear of killing someone with your breath*

Hello darling, My name is Jennifer and I am glad that you are in my space. I help people take care of their hair and skin using natural products so that they can have a healthy hair and glowing skin. I am also a talkative and I am an 'almost' on air personality. Please, don't laugh at me, I am just being truthful. That dream will soon come true...can I get an amen? I know you are wondering what the correlation is between an almost OAP and a beautypreneur, don't worry, I will give you the gist! When I decided to 'return natural' with my hair, I was almost discouraged because of the prices of the hair care products that I had to buy. I began to research and before long, I was making my own products and my hair was thriving! I decided to start producing hand made products that will be affordable and will make being a naturalista easy. I wasn't sure how it would go but it has been an awesome journey so far. As for my skin products, I have always been big on making my own bathing soap with mixtures that my mother taught me. I told myself that it would be wrong of me to glow alone and so I started making hand made body products for my darling customers that are my HF slayers! I also had to throw in other organic/natural products that are usually scarce and expensive so that they become readily available and most especially, affordable. My goal is to help you achieve your hair and skin goals without breaking the bank! I really hope that you achieve that from this space and I look forward to connecting with you personally. Don't forget that love makes the world go round; don't keep information to yourself. Be charitable and share our posts, you never can tell who needs to read it. Thank you. xxx Jennifer.
